Xian City Wall at Dusk by Rebecca Richards at Xian in Shaanxi province, China.

“This photograph was taken atop the Xian city wall at dusk. The wall was originally built during the Tang Dynasty (618-907). In the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the wall was enlarged and extended by order of the Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang. It was a magical experience to watch as the lanterns were lit one by one, and the roofs of the pagodas were outlined with white lights. In Xian, as in every city in China, the ancient mixes with the modern.”

Rebecca Richards is a Registered Nurse currently living in San Francisco. More of her photographs can be seen at http://rebeccarichards.zenfolio.com/p679600392
