Kernberg’s got ‘Street Cred’ by Nathan Szajnberg

Kernberg
Otto Kernberg’s got street cred: a former President of the IPA, one of our more accomplished researchers, prolific author, training analyst and faculty member of the Columbia Psychoanalytic Center. So, when he has something substantive to say about psychoanalysis, about our discipline, attention should be paid.

And Kernberg has much to say. He spoke on “The Twilight of the Training Analysis System,” at the January American Psychoanalytic meeting and an abbreviated, yet pointed version is in TAP (Spring/Summer 2013). (Link below). Continue reading Kernberg’s got ‘Street Cred’ by Nathan Szajnberg

Reflections on the Absence of Morality in Psychoanalytic Theory and Practice with Elio Frattaroli at NYPSI

Elio Frattaroli’s “Healing the Soul in the Age of the Brain,” is an eloquent plea for a humanistic psychoanalysis and a guide to technique.

Elio will be at NYPSI on Wednesday, May 8 for the Works In Progress program to present some provocative thoughts on the nature of morality in psychoanalytic practice and how this underlies breaches in practice.

Please join us.

Earthquakes, explosions, bombings and effect of violence on children by Sasha Rolde at IP.net

Dear Colleagues,

I invite you to glance at this week’s international psychoanalysis website to take your attention away for a while from the world’s mostly unpleasant and worrisome news, be it earthquake in China, explosions and bombings in the USA and elsewhere. My apologies if you were just trying to finally enjoy some spring weather. The posts this week reflect some of the trauma of the news and try to put a psychoanalytic perspective on it. My choices this week are:

l) It is interesting to me to read the announcement about Anne Sexton’s therapy with Dawn Skorczewske at NYPSI, having treated her myself prior to that in Boston.

DSM-5, God’s voice, glial cells, social monkeys and brain geography from Sasha Rolde on IP.net

Dear Colleagues,

with graduations looming, end of the year chaos and preparations for summer vacations, many of us are really busy, but I will urge you again to take time to read this week’s post on the international psychoanalytic website and to comment on them. It connects us with our world in a very unique way and it is growing in scope over the years. As always I try not to repeat the Announcements from previous weeks but as some of the events have not yet taken place, you may want to look at the entire category of announcements rather than just the ones I mention here.

My favorite posts this week are:

1) Our thanks go to Dr. Newell Fischer for his Reviews of Nine Lives, a most welcome addition to our published repertoire of our work.
