The symptom conceals a signifying chain and its structure opens the way for Lacan’s concept of the sinthome. This presentation will clarify the concepts of symptom, sinthome, and the knotting structure of RSI.

The title of Priscilla Roth’s paper comes from Freud’s discussion of disavowal and refers also to John Steiner’s development of this concept in his description of psychic retreats. It also recalls the Meeting of the Rivers of the Amazon, where the Rio Negro and the Rio Bianco flow side by side without mixing for some time, until, at a certain point, traces of the one can be detected in the other. Vanderbilt study of Effects of Pre-K: No effects after 1-2 years.

This careful study of over 700 children shows that pre-K shows no sustained academic improvement. This recent study confirms earlier studies. A summary from the Executive summary appears here and the link to the full report below.

“… we found that the effects of TN‐VPK on the WJ achievement measures observed at the end of the pre‐k year had greatly diminished by the end of the kindergarten year and the differences between participants and nonparticipants were no longer statistically significant. The only exception was a marginally significant difference on Passage Comprehension with nonparticipants showing higher scores at the end of the kindergarten year than TN‐VPK participants.
