Kahn, MD, PhD, as well as other distinguished experts including Bita Moghaddam, PhD, Chair and Ruth Matarazzo Professor of Behavioral Neuroscience at Oregon Health & Science University, Godfrey Pearlson, MD, Professor of Psychiatry and Neurobiology at Yale University School of Medicine, and Romina Mizrahi, MD, PhD, Associate Professor in Psychiatry at University of Toronto.

Dr. Kahn, an internationally renowned expert on the neurobiology of schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, was appointed Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai on January 1, 2017.

The symposium is part of a broader initiative from the Department of Psychiatry and the Mount Sinai Health System to bring to bear basic discoveries in neuroscience, to better understand the causes of major psychiatric disorders, and to develop innovative treatments.

The Department of Psychiatry would like to thank Karen Davis, PhD, and the Deborah Elkins Foundation for supporting the Symposium, as well as Sophia Frangou, MD, PhD, and Ahron Friedberg, MD, for organizing the event.

The Department encourages participants to register before the Symposium. The fees are as follows:

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of the activity, participants will be able to:

1. Identify the genetic and cellular basis of dysfunction in psychosis and assess how these may affect patient variability in symptomatic expression and treatment response.

2. Describe changes in brain networks in psychosis and utilize this information to develop novel neuromodulation interventions.

3. Define the role of neuroinflammation to the pathophysiology of psychosis and apply it to the treatment of neuroinflammation in patients.

4. Identify risks for developing psychosis and assess the early signs of the disorder so that proper treatment modalities may be implemented.
