Today we would do well to supplement the paradigm for loss that Freud elaborated in 1917 in “Mourning and Melancholia” with an Amerindian perspectivism that can allow us to grasp the kind of infinite mourning we find in contemporary experience.

Christian Ingo Lenz Dunker practices psychoanalysis in São Paulo, where he is also a USP professor of Clinical Psychology and Lacanian Studies and co-coordinator of its Laboratory for Social Theory, Philosophy and Psychoanalysis, and member analyst of the Fórum do Campo Lacaniano. In Brazil he is widely known as a blogger and journalistic writer on psychoanalytic topics but also on such general political topics as police violence. Karnac Books has published in English translation his The Constitution of the Psychoanalytic Clinic: A History of its Structure and Power.
