Flight of the Ibis is a musical drama with dance set in the Golden Age of the Jews in the Umayyad Caliphate in 10th century Cordoba, Spain. The Caliphate was by far the most advanced state in Europe at that time, drawing upon the cultures of the ancient world, and having a remarkable interfaith harmony among Muslims, Jews, and Christians. The play involves three main characters with strong spiritual visions, drawing upon the Kabbalah and Sufism. However, they undermine themselves from their own unresolved emotional issues, issues which are relevant to the conflicts and destructiveness in the world today. The play was first performed at St Peters Church on Lexington Avenue, November 17, 2011.
