Presents Beyond ‘Category Problems’: The Paradox of ‘Otherness’ and a Reconsideration of ‘The New Normal’ In Psychoanalysis by Louis Pansulla

Sunday, November 10, 2013
6:30 – 8:00 pm
at NPAP, 40 West 13 Street

After being asked to present on the topic of ‘LGBTQ considerations in psychoanalysis’ at a recent national analytic conference, the writer has a series of reveries and reactions to the invitation. This paper problematizes ‘categories’ and examines how we make sense of ‘what we do with what we have.’ Alternative paradigms of ‘analytic listening’ are proposed, as well as some unpacking of our own relationships to ‘change’ and adaptability.

Trained at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP); Training analyst, Gay and Lesbian Affirmative Psychotherapy (GLAP- division at ICP) clinical supervisor, and later clinic director at ICP.
