Humanities, Dr. C. Gold, WWII retrospective from Sasha Rolde on IP.net

Dear Colleagues,

As politics seem to be heating up,globally, nationally, locally and in our small world of psychoanalysis, our website reflects that conflicts, turmoils as well as the our work and research which goes on regardless of outside forces. With the fall foliage coming to full bloom, it is difficult to chose to read but I hope that the following posts will attract your interest.

My choices this week include:

1) I recommend the video interview in defense of the Humanities by Leon Wieseltier “No, Science Doesn’t Have All the Answers” on the New Republic Magazine website. Now more true than ever!

2) Marilyn Monroe – forever the fascinating American actress- is the fascinating topic of Dr. Alma H. Bond’s talk on “what might have been if..”

3) Please note the recently published Letters of Sigmund Freud and Otto Rank: Inside Psychoanalysis – to give us a greater perspective on our history and also on the contributions of Otto Rank.

4) Also in the Books category, there is an excellent review of the “Encounters with Loneliness: Only the Lonely.”

5) Please note that we have a new category (deservedly devoted to children and childrearing ). Should be visited by all.

6) The General News Category has too many posts for me to single out. Suffice it to say that in addition to the insurance issues regarding paying for mental health care, they are a trip down memory lane to a retrospective on the post WWII years from 1945 in Europe, Japan, Korea and the USA. Please take the journey! The juxtaposition of the difficulty in predicting violent behavior and the retrospective on WWII seems eerie.
