The Adolescent Neurosis in Fact & Fiction By Theodore Jacobs, M.D.
Dr. Theodore Jacobs will discuss and read from his novel The Year of Durocher and his paper “The Adolescent Neurosis” to illustrate the subject of his presentation: the enduring impact of adolescence on the adult personality and, specifically, the contributions of the various stages of adolescence to symptom formation and character development.
NYPSI member Dr. Sander Abend will moderate the discussion.
A book signing will follow.
Theodore Jacobs is Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and Training and Supervising Analyst at The New York Psychoanalytic Institute and the Institute for Psychoanalytic Education. He is the author of The Use of the Self: Countertransference and Communication in the Analytic Situation, and the forthcoming book, The Possible Profession: The Analytic Process and The Process of Change. He has published short fiction in Harpers Magazine, Humor from Harpers, Mutiny Magazine, and Martha Foley’s Best Short Stories of the Year.
