History of analysis and its hierarchy, child rearing & culture and more from Sasha Rolde on IP.net

Dear Colleagues,

the posts on the international psychoanalytic website this week cover a range from history of classical and current psychoanalytic thinking, to child rearing, the Aurora killing, child rearing , exercise and depression.
there is enough to keep you busy the rest of the summer, but since there will be more comming, I have picked out a few. Please glance at the rest.

My choices this week:

1)let me start by saying that there are a number of books on the meta theory of the mind as both from the classical view of Freud to current neuroscientific approach, all of which provide a rich tapestry. I will mention some later.

2) Congratulations to Bonnie Litowitz, Ph.D. for being selected as the new Editor-in-Chief of JAPA.

4) Please read the book review by Simon Taylor of The Freud Files-an(critical and controversial) Inquiry into the History of Psychoanalysis and Freud’s legacy to contributing to our current hierarchical system.

5) Samuel Slipp, M.D. interestingly echoes James Carroll’s observations in Constantine’s Sword, when he gives a definition of birth of antisemitism in his book Anti-Semitism: Its Effect on Freud and the Development of Psychoanalysis.
“Freud developed a psychoanalytic theory of individuals that was universal and equal for all both Jews and non-Jews. Anti-Semitism had arisen because the Gospel writers wanted to differentiate themselves from the Jews rebelling in a Judea that was defeated by Rome. Moreover, Emperor Nero had accused the Christians of setting fire to Rome and began killing them. To prevent greater slaughter of Christians, the Gospel writers minimized the Roman and emphasized the Jewish role in the crucifixion of Jesus. Human destiny was first seen as determined by gods, then by natural circumstances and human decisions and then by unconscious motives by Freud.”

In A Better World won the Oscar for the best foreign film in 2011. The Danish title, Haevnen, means Vengeance. I feel that is the correct name for this thoughtful intense movie. In A Better World has the sound of a sermon, and thats not what this movie is about***even though it deals with problematic ethical issues.
