Loretta R. Loeb M.D., a psychiatrist, adult and child psychoanalyst, died unexpectedly at her home at the age of 79. She attended college at Univ. of Illinois completed medical school at Univ. of Pittsburgh where she met her longtime companion, husband, Felix F. Loeb Jr., M.D., Dr. Loeb did her psychiatry residency at the prestigious Western Psychiatric Institute. She explored the psychoanalytic perspective on human behavior in partnership with her husband while living in Pittsburgh, San Diego and finally in Portland.. In Portland, she founded and raised funds to remove tell-tale tattoos from former gang members so that they could reenter society. She studied the origins and resolution of obsessive compulsive disorders in children, the combining of lithium therapy with psychoanalysis in bipolar disorders, and authored many other papers and books. She is survived by her husband, Felix F. Loeb Jr.; her sons, Felix F. Loeb III, Jeffrey A. Loeb; and her daughter-in-law, Marjorie H. Loeb.
This is a book of hope and compassion that describes in detail the analytic processes in the treatment of men whose sexualities are conflicted. The authors eschew political correctness as well as restrictive dogma. They provide their patients with the freedom to choose what they want and need rather than something imposed by the treaters.
