Between 1906 and 1913 Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung exchanged over 360 letters, which record for posterity a passionate, creative and increasingly acrimonious relationship between these two monumental pioneers of depth psychology. This reading, which is based on our highly edited account of their voluminous correspondence, attempts to distill the emotional and intellectual intensity of a relationship which had such a fateful impact on the course of psychoanalytic history. In addition to illuminating the character and unique dynamics of each of these illustrious men, their relationship has claim to our attention for the way it reveals the complexity of psychoanalytic creativity as it emerges in a highly charged dialogue between colleagues. In this sense, these insights can help us appreciate the enormous complexity of collaboration within our psychoanalytic community, where issues of character, identity, rivalry and passion infuse our discourse at all levels.

Moderator……… Louise DeCosta, Ph.D., LCSW
Louise DeCosta is a faculty member, supervisor and training analyst affiliated with the Postgrad*, and The Object Relations Institute, NYC. In private practice for more than thirty years, her training includes work and study in the USA, London, and Mumbai, India.
Narrator……… …Margaret Klenck, M.Div, LP
Margaret Klenck is a Jungian Analyst in private practice in NYC. She is a graduate of the CG Jung Institute of NY, and holds a Masters of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary, where she concentrated in Psychology and Religion. Currently, she serves as President of the Jungian Psychoanalytic Association in NY, where she teaches and supervises.
Sigmund Freud… Elliot Adler, Ph.D., ABPP
Elliot Adler is a former Director and Senior Faculty at the Westchester Center for the Study of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. He is a member of the faculty and supervisor with the National Program in Psychoanalysis at NIP in NYC. Dr. Adler has co-authored, with Janet Bachant, the book Working In Depth, published by Jason Aronson.
Carl Jung………. William Baker, Psy.D.
William Baker is a psychologist in private practice in NYC. He earned his doctorate at the George Washington University and has completed postdoctoral training with the NY Psychoanalytic Society and The William Alanson White Institute. Dr. Baker is currently a candidate in the Jungian Psychoanalytic Association
Emma Jung……. Allison F. Avery, M.A.
Allison Avery is a psychoanalytic candidate with the Jungian Psychoanalytic Association. Currently she is the director of the office of Diversity Affairs at NYU School of Medicine.
