Several decades have passed since the 1954 Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association (JAPA) Symposium comparing the two psychodynamic treatment approaches as to their similarities and differences, and lively debate continues. This paper traces the evolution of the debate and attempts a tentative resolution.
