IPA Research submissions from Joseph Schachter

International Psychoanalytical Association
IPA Research submissions
To: All IPA Members, Candidates and Non Members
Dear Colleagues:

Announcing the 1st 2011 request for submissions for the Committee for the Evaluation of Research Proposals and Results (CERP). Applications are invited that address questions of research in psychoanalytically relevant areas. IPA currently prioritizes studies of outcome of psychotherapy and of psychoanalysis, studies by IPA Members who have attended Research Training Programs, and studies by IPA Candidates, however applications are welcome from any suitably qualified individual who can meet our criteria.

A NEW Small Grant Program has been established that is available to IPA Candidates and IPA Members who were recent graduates (less than three years post-graduation). The application is limited to five single-spaced pages, the maximum award is $5000, and we are trying to arrange for mentors to be available to assist in developing the application.

Due date for the submission is Sunday 22nd May.

Research grant application has been modified to a five-step procedure for all applications:

all applicants submit a single-spaced  application which contains an Abstract/Summary, a brief curriculum vitae of the Principal Investigator, the sponsoring institution and the budget; be sure to indicate if you are an IPA Member or a candidate/recent graduate. Please note that this should be typed or copied directly into the abstract box of the online application form – attachments will not be accepted.
these initial applications are each evaluated by three reviewers, and those judged to be most promising will be invited to upload a full application limited to 10 single-spaced pages, or a Small Grant application which is limited to five single-spaced pages; a full application may request a maximum award of $15,000.
these invited full applications are returned to the original three reviewers for a complete primary review.
the three primary reviews of each application are each submitted to three members of the CERP for the secondary, executive review.
Applicants of approved proposals are notified, and are required to obtain approval of an Institutional Review Board (IRB) before funds will be awarded. Applicants are strongly urged to obtain IRB approval from a local university or institution which does not charge a fee for the review. If the applicant is unable to obtain a local IRB review, the applicant may apply to the IRB at the Washington Psychoanalytic Center. Half of the fee for that review will be deducted from the funds awarded to that applicant, and half will be provided by the IPA.

All submissions must be in English and must be submitted using the online form that can be obtained by following the news link at www.ipa.org.uk

Relevant documents regarding CERP procedures and a quick guide to help you complete the online application form can be found at http://www.ipa.org.uk/eng/research/research/committee-for-the-evaluation-of-research-proposals/

Yours sincerely,
