MEXICO CITY – A SAFE AND PLEASANT CONGRESS VENUE

The IPA has been diligently investigating the situation in Mexico City with respect to safety for Congress participants and their families. IPA representatives have made several visits to Mexico and all found the area around the Congress venue and hotels to be safe. There is also a reassuringly strong and visible police presence in the central city area. Major Congresses such as the World AIDS Congress with 25,000 delegates have been held in recent times in Mexico City with no reported incidents taking place, so we are confident in recommending it to you as a safe location.
However, because of the adverse publicity that Mexico has received, and in order to assure the peace of mind of all delegates, the Congress will have Guides (Mexican Candidates and young analysts) in all the hotels to assist congress participants in negotiating the City. The IPA Congress Working Group is also exploring the possibility of Shuttle Buses to transport Congress attendees from those hotels which are not a short walk away to the Congress Center. Safe and interesting city and museum tours will be available as well as a wonderful choice of approved pre- and post-Congress tours to the major archeological, artisan and ocean sites.
With respect to air quality, the good news is that August – the month of the IPA Congress – is the season of the best air-quality, and that air quality has in general improved significantly in the last years. Congress participants can expect to enjoy a healthy, pleasant stay in Mexico City.
The IPA Mexico Congress offers an exciting programme and a unique cultural experience. Every attempt is being made by the Congress Working Group and Local Arrangements Committee to ensure all those who attend enjoy a safe and relaxed visit.

CIUDAD DE MÉXICO – UNA SEDE SEGURA Y AGRADABLE PARA EL CONGRESO
La API ha estado investigando diligentemente la situación en Ciudad de México con respecto a la seguridad para los participantes del Congreso y sus familias. Los representantes de la API han realizado numerosas visitas a México y todos encontraron que la zona alrededor de la sede del Congreso y de los hoteles es segura. Asimismo, hay una presencia policial fuerte y visible en la zona central de la ciudad, lo cual es tranquilizador. Recientemente, se han organizado importantes Congresos en Ciudad de México, como el Congreso Mundial del SIDA, con 25.000 delegados, y no se ha informado la ocurrencia de incidentes, por lo que confiamos estar recomendándole un lugar seguro.
Sin embargo, debido a la publicidad negativa que ha recibido México, y para garantizar la tranquilidad de todos los delegados, el Congreso contará con Guías (Candidatos mexicanos y analistas jóvenes) en todos los hoteles para que ayuden a los participantes a manejarse en la ciudad. El Grupo de Trabajo del Congreso de la API también está estudiando la posibilidad de tener autobuses de enlace para transportar a los asistentes desde los hoteles más alejados del Centro de Congresos. Se podrán realizar tours de la ciudad y visitas a museos interesantes y seguros, y habrá una gran variedad de tours previos y posteriores al Congreso, a los principales sitios arqueológicos, artesanales y oceánicos.
Con respecto a la calidad del aire, las buenas noticias son que agosto, el mes del congreso de la API, es la estación con mejor calidad del aire, y que, en general, ésta ha mejorado significativamente en los últimos años. Los participantes pueden esperar disfrutar de una saludable y agradable estadía en Ciudad de México.
El Congreso de la API de México ofrece un apasionante programa y una experiencia cultural única. El Grupo de Trabajo del Congreso y el Comité Local están haciendo los mayores esfuerzos para que todos quienes asistan disfruten de una visita segura y distendida.
