Après-Coup Psychoanalytic Association presents
PANEL DISCUSSION
“S’auteuriser de lui-même?”
Alain Didier-Weill and Jean-Michel Vives
Saturday, June 24, 2017
10:30 am – 2:30 pm
The School of Visual Arts
136 West 21st Street, New York, NY
When Lacan says “the analyst is authorized only by himself,” to what does “himself” (lui-même) refer? Far from being a solipsistic turn back upon the self, this lui-même implies an opening onto the Real and receptivity toward the unexpected. The discourse of the analyst is one in which a subject ventures an act of creation through a speech act.
Alain Didier-Weill is a psychoanalyst, psychiatrist and writer. He was a member of the École freudienne de Paris and active participant in Lacan’s 1975, ’76 and ’80 seminars. He co-founded Coût freudien, and in 2002, created Mouvement Insistance (art psychanalyse politique). His many publications include Les Trois Temps de la Loi, Un mystère plus lointain que l’inconscient and Qu’est-ce que le surmoi? Among his many, widely performed plays, one was adapted in the U.S. as the film The Caller, and he both wrote and directed the film on psychoanalysis, Quartier Lacan.
Jean-Michel Vives is a professor of clinical psychopathology at the Université Nice, Sophia Antipolis and practices psychoanalysis in Toulon, France. He is the author of many essays on the invocatory drives, autism, music therapy, clinical approach to psychosis, and of the book La voix sur le divan. He also directed several theater and opera performances.
