Après-Coup Psychoanalytic Association presents
From Logic to Topology Jean-Michel Vappereau
Saturday, December 10, 2016, 10:30 am – 1:30 pm, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm, The School of Visual Arts. 136 West 21st Street, New York, NY
Logic deals with the opposition between inside and outside, involving a border or frontier, while the topology of the soft object deals with the opposition between intrinsic and extrinsic as a consequence of a difference in dimension between the object and the space that receives it. This workshop will address the significance of topology for the understanding of narcissism, the construction of the body, and the relation of the subject to reality.
Suggested Readings: Freud: A General Introduction to Psychoanalysis (1920/1934), Lecture 26, “The Theory of the Libido: Narcissism.” Lacan: Seminar XXVII, La Dissolution, 1979-80, class of June 10, 1980. Vappereau: On narcissism and the isometric group of the cube: jeanmichel.vappereau.free.fr.
