BECOMING A FLEXIBLE FREUDIAN
Presenter: Jeffrey H. Golland, Ph.D.

This paper traces my 58-year romance with psychoanalysis. Along the way, I describe the range of treatments derived from Freud’s theory, and I address essential therapeutic principles with clinical vignettes. While clinical work engages me in every single hour, psychoanalysis is more than an effective therapy; it is an evolving science of mind applied also in intellectual, artistic, social, and political realms. Quoting Auden’s (1940) eulogy: Freud is “no more a person, but a whole climate of opinion.”
