A JOURNEY THROUGH ADOLESCENCE: STRUGGLE IN THE SEPARATION-INDIVIDUATION PROCESS
Through a treatment that lasted more than 5 years, different symptoms, resistances and phases were observed and worked through. This treatment was very intense: obsessive-compulsive symptoms, suicidal ideation and attempts, severe mood swings, etc., were added to the usual rollercoaster of adolescence and triggered severe emotional distress in the patient. As part of the adolescent process of establishing equilibrium, this patient struggled in order to eventually find a balance. Her symptoms of depression were related to her disillusionment with her parental figures, played out in relationships, and feelings were disavowed. In the same way, it was difficult for her to relate to her therapist. Silent sessions initially progressed to anger and then later to love. Ultimately, with the help of the therapist, the patient was able to separate and progress through the termination process.
