Wednesday, October 7, 2015, 8 p.m., The long-time influence of W.R. Bion on my analytic work
Bennett Roth, Ph.D.
Free and open to the public. RSVP
From his first employment as a staff psychologist to the last paper he published, Bion’s ideas have influenced Dr. Bennett Roth’s psychoanalytic work with individual and group patients. He happened upon Bion’s work prior to reading Freud and this changed the lens he applied to all psychoanalytic theories. Most of Roth’s writing on group therapy somehow reflect Bion’s ideas or build upon them. Roth participated in Bion’s talks in New York City and was fortunate to have an hour supervision with him that had long-lasting effects. As Roth began to explore some problems in the theory of group theory, he embarked on an effort to read Bion’s biographical material to further understand who this extraordinary man was and his creative gifts. The celebration of his “Talk in New York” gave Roth the first opportunity to share his experience. This opportunity provides a further attempt at a focal analysis of his impact.
Bennett Roth, Ph.D. is a fellow of the American Board of Examiners in Psychology, a member of the American Psychoanalytic and the International Psychoanalytical Associations, and author of Bion, Basic Assumption and Violence: A corrective reappraisal. He was a participant in the IPTAR conference on Bion in New York “My memories of supervision with Bion”.
All are welcome.
