A CLINICAL WORKSHOP: TREATMENT OF A NARCISSISTIC PERSONALITY DISORDER
SATURDAY, MAY 9, 2015
Presenter: Anthony Mazzella, Ph.D., L.C.S.W.

This workshop will focus on the specific techniques and interventions that were used to help a man with a severe narcissistic personality disorder. Dr. Mazzella will demonstrate how to translate selective aspects of object

relations theory, such as denial, splitting, the world of dyads, and the grandiose self, into specific therapeutic interventions. Clinical material will be used to illustrate how primitive mental states are used to regulate self-esteem and defend against deeper feelings of shame, humiliation and a profound sense of depression and emptiness. The explicit techniques and interventions that were used with this patient will be presented. Clinical examples and questions from workshop participants will be explored and discussed.
