Finding Ourselves in the Selves of Others: Deepening Artistic Connections

Finding Ourselves in the Selves of Others:
Deepening Artistic Connections
Friday, April 24, 2015
6 pm – 8:30 pm

A workshop with creativity experts Ani Buk (psychoanalyst and art therapist) and Craig Haen (psychotherapist and drama therapist).

This experiential workshop is designed for artists, psychotherapists, and anyone interested in using imaginative techniques to connect with the artwork of others as a catalyst for a deeper connection with themselves. Recent neuroscience research on the mirror neuron system will provide a backdrop for this interactive exploration of the self-portrait, further supported by touring Self: Portraits of Artists in Their Absence, an exhibition surveying the transformation in self-portraiture over the past 200 years currently on view at the National Academy Museum.

No previous art-making experience is required. Art materials will be provided, though participants are welcome to bring their favorite drawing supplies if they wish.
