THE PROGRAM COMMITTEE OF THE NATIONAL PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION FOR PSYCHOANALYSIS PRESENTS
THE CLINICAL RELEVANCE OF INTERNALIZED CULTURE IN A GLOBALIZED WORLD
SPEAKERS: M. Nasir Ilahi and Alan Roland, Ph.D.
DISCUSSANT: Catherine Silver, Ph.D.
MODERATOR: Susana Martinez, Ph.D.
Apart from a few notable exceptions, psychoanalytic formulations have not taken into account the role of culture at either the theoretical or clinical level. Using clinical material, the panel will explore this territory, considering whether there are implicit emotional values and ways of being/thinking in radically different cultures that deeply suffuse the emotional conceptions of individuals.
