Transference and Countertransference with Arnold Richards at MITTP

THE METROPOLITAN CENTER FOR MENTAL HEALTH
and THE METROPOLITAN INSTITUTE
FOR TRAINING IN PSYCHOANALYTIC PSYCHOTHERAPY

TRANSFERENCE AND COUNTERTRANSFERENCE: SHIBBOLETHS OR ALBATROSSES
Saturday, DECEMBER 6, 2014
Presenter: ARNOLD RICHARDS, M.D.

Arnold Richards’ presentation will be based on two papers, one on transference and one on countertransference. Dr. Richards presented these papers in Wuhan, China, originally. You may read the papers in advance. They will be emailed to you upon your registration for the workshop.

Dr. Richards will focus on how the concepts of transference and countertransference are looked at through the lenses of various theoretical approaches such as Self-Psychology, Relational Psychoanalysis, Kleinian, etc., and how theorists from such schools might view his clinical vignettes. The countertransference paper includes a rare opportunity to learn how a patient, long terminated, responded to the clinical presentation of an enactment in his treatment with Dr. Richards. These papers will provide material for a rich discussion.
