Seventy years after a donation of 200 works of art disappeared on its way to be gifted to the “Jewish autonomous region” of Birobidzhan, visual artist Yevgeniy Fiks made an attempt to complete the gesture by inviting 25 contemporary artists to donate work to the Birobidzhan Art Museum. Join Fiks, scholars Kolya Borodulin and Gennady Estraikh (NYU; YIVO), and curator Erin Sickler for a discussion of the project and the legacy of Birobidzhan. Read more…
