The winds of war and dynamic view of historical events from Sasha Rolde on IP.net

Dear Colleagues,

the winds of war are upon us again – so I turn to the website to see if we can get any clarification of what human beings are about and up to in contemporary society and if we have any answers.
I have focused on a few posts, but hope that you will browse through the entire website and share your views.

My choices are as follows:

1) I am always struck by how people who emigrated to escape the Nazi regime survived or didn’t – please read the post in the ART or BOOK sections on “Stefan Zweig’s Impossible Exile and Facing History” – his enormous intellect, and drive turned into dust.

2) The more I read about Hannah Arendt, Adolph Eichmann and the Nazis, the more I realize the complexity of the human psyche and how many layers we have to peel to really understand all the players in the drama of the Holocaust. There are several posts this week that may deal with WWII but seem to me to be coming out of the woodwork because of the current political climate.
These particular posts especially, target the nazis, the jews, the judges, and the authors in a way that might take a researcher several years to write a book – and remember, not all facts are known. Please read in the Books category:

3) Could the focus on the “Well Behaved Child” relate in any way to our current crises? Please read “***Impact of violent media on the brain” and “How to Have a Well-Behaved Child” in the General News Category.

6) I have taught Adolescent development seminars for several decades. Adolescence – how long is good? Posts on adolescent development would argue prolonged brain plasticity and new experiences if it last longer – yet, let me interject, it the adolescent population that is sent to fight the wars.

7) And finally the film “Good Kill” summarizes all of the above – read the post in the Uncategorized Category on drone warfare.

Tuesday, September 30, 2014, 6:30 PM | Panel Discussion
The Impossible Exile: Stefan Zweig at the End of the World
George Prochnik***s The Impossible Exile
Join us as as authors George Prochnik and Gideon Lewis-Kraus discuss Prochnik***s brilliant new biography of Stefan Zweig.

By the 1930s, Stefan Zweig had become the most widely translated living author in the world. His novels, short stories, and biographies were so compelling that they became instant best sellers. Zweig was also an intellectual and a lover of all the arts, high and low. Yet after Hitler***s rise to power, this celebrated writer who had dedicated so much energy to promoting international humanism plummeted, in a matter of a few years, into an increasingly isolated exile-from London to Bath to New York City, then Ossining, Rio, and finally
Petr**polis-where, in 1942, in a cramped bungalow, he killed himself. ***.
