The analytic cure of a child involves, and also questions, its family history, with particular reference to the position of the mother, defining not just its causal origin but, above all, what the mother must lose if she is to let the child’s subjectivity emerge.

Angelo Villa, Ph.D., is a psychoanalyst practicing in Milan, where he also teaches at the Università Bicocca, the Istituto Freudiano, and the IRPA (Institute for Applied Psychoanalytic Research). A member of the World Psychoanalytic Association (AMP), he is the author of many articles, a Glossario Lacaniano,and other books on such diverse topics as the end of the cure in treatment of psychoses (Il tempo spezzato),immigration and alterity (Intercultura e immigrazione), psychoanalysis and physical disabilities (La mano nel cappello, translated as Psychoanalysis and Severe Handicap: The Hand in the Cap [London, Karnac, 2013]), the legacy of ’68 and parenting (Il sogno de Telemaco), and singer-songwriters’ pop songs (Pink Freud. Psicoanlisi della canzone d’autore).
