Myths about Women, warning in colleges, historical perspectives from Sasha Rolde on IP.net

Dear Colleagues,

It is the Memorial Day Weekend, and if you ignore all the sales hype, you may remember what we are to remember. Our international psychoanalytic website functions as a reminder of all the things to remember not just this weekend, but throughout the year, that we wish the rest of the world would pay attention to as well. I have chosen a few of the posts but please browse thru the site carefully to remind you of the past, the present and the future events, both exciting and sadly unforgettable as the may be.
Please recall that I try to avoid repeated postings from previous weeks but they may be on the website in case you missed them.
My choices this week are:

1) Please try to go to the Karen Horney clinic in October to the COWAP Conference : Myths of the Mighty Woman: What Makes a Woman? It should be a great presentation.

2) Note the New Imprint from IPBooks – coming soon.

3) after actually hearing a discussion about this on NPR and digesting the NYT article on whether to warn students (who of course are adults) about graphic material presented in their classes, I could not resist making a list of how we tend to infantilize adults in all walks of life, organizations and schools. Can we really shelter all from real life? How will they remember?
Please read and comment (in the Books Category).

4) There is more on stimulants, ADHD and young children – please read. Click Here to Read This Article

5) Memories of the Holocaust haunt us again as we read Mr. Winton’s letter to President Roosevelt about the hundreds of Czech children caught in the disaster.

6) The Papers Category reminds us of the history of psychoanalysis in the USA (Ernst Kris) and the current status of he training analysis system,(Otto Kernberg).

IV. Donations to InternationalPsychoanalysis.net

Internationanalpsychoanalysis.net has flourished in a remarkable way since it was launched in January 2007. It has become both an archive and a news source.

One of the serendipitous outgrowths of its presence and has been that we have even more reasons to experience ourselves as a community with a history, elders, anniversaries, anecdotes, a paper trail, photos and relics of our founders *** and evidence of our on-going growth and adaptation to a very changed therapeutic world.

But the growth has outpaced the cottage and one computer.

Are you able to contribute to the cost of our widening scope?
We will use contributions to internationalpsychoanalysis.net to scan and transcribe papers, search archives, find photographs format documents and upload recordings and videos. It is labor intensive and for me a labor of love [but for the helpers, indeed, work].
