LACAN ON PSYCHOANALYTIC SAVOIR-FAIRE AND THE SINTHOME, Seminar

Beginning with readings of selected classes from Lacan’s Seminar XI, The Four Fundamental Concepts of Psychoanalysis, we will address the notions of the unconscious, repetition, and transference, and Lacan’s idea of psychoanalysis as the search for knowledge as truth.
SUGGESTED READINGS: The group is presently reading chapter IV of Lacan’s Seminar XI, the four fundamental concepts. Please review this chapter in advance of the meeting. In addition to discussing chapter IV, “The network of Signifiers” of Seminar XI, we will also review the letter #52, where Freud explains to Fliess, about how his conception of the psychic apparatus has to do with the sequence of inscriptions – “Niederschriften” – in Lacan terms signifiers. We will provide copies of Richard Klein’s bilingual English/German version.
