Seducing NPAP Unbelievers, Will and Tracy at NPAP

Seducing NPAP Unbelievers, Will and Tracy, TOMORROW, SUNDAY 6:30 pm

Just a reminder tomorrow Sunday 6:30 pm at NPAP so proud to present Will and Tracy. Please do come to see them exhort, mobilize and libidinize in a presentation on bringing psychoanalysis to the world – offensively (as in not defensively), passionately, on its own terms, not translated into CBT, DBT but in its own tongue (if there is such a thing) through an activist sensibility. Please come, your energy and presence will make a difference.

The Program Committee and The Public Relations Committee
of the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis Invite you to consider
The Couch in the World: Or, Seducing Unbelievers: Psychoanalytic Interventions in the Public Sphere
William H. Braun and Tracy Morgan
Sunday, April 6, 2014 * 6:30 – 8:30 pm NPAP Meeting Room
40 W 13 Street, New York City * Buzzer 216

At a time when psychoanalysis finds itself on the defensive, there nevertheless remains an unflagging desire for psychoanalysis. How best to capitalize on this desire? And, how do we reckon with our own resistances to engaging, on behalf of psychoanalysis, beyond the consulting room?

William H. Braun, Psy. D. is a clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst in private practice who works with adults, children, and adolescents. He is an Assistant Attending Psychologist in the Department of Psychiatry at Lenox Hill Hospital and on Faculty at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute where he is the Director of Training for the Clinical Psychology Internship and Externship Programs. He also serves as psychological consultant to Hunter College Elementary and High School and George Jackson Academy, and is a Chairman of the Committee on Public Information for the American Psychoanalytic Association.

Tracy Morgan, M. Phil., LCSW-R, is a psychoanalyst in private practice working with individuals, couples, and groups. She is editor/host of the webcast, New Books in Psychoanalysis (www.newbooksinpsychoanalysis.com), a blogger (www.freudianachachacha.wordpress.org), and the incoming VP for Information and Public Relations at the Society for Modern Psychoanalysis. Her interest in intervening on behalf of psychoanalysis derives from the years she spent with reproductive rights and AIDS activism, particularly ACT UP, in the late 1980s.

Refreshments will be served.

This event is free and open to the NPAP community and to the general public.

Program Committee: Jean Golden, Richard J. Karpe, S. Montana Katz, Jane Kupersmidt, Evan Malater, Gavriel Reisner (Members in Training Organization), Alan Roland, Catherine B. Silver, E. Hanna Turken, Aleksandra Wagner (Chair), and Margaret Zellner.
