Dear Colleagues,
with apologies for having temporarily suspended writing for 3 weeks due to various unforeseen circumstances, I return, along with the balmy spring weather and sunshine on the east coast, to update you on the latest posts on the international psychoanalytic website. I hope that you have at least scanned it during my silence. The world has not stood still, nor has the activity on the website. As usual, I will give you my favorites followed by the regular list of contents. I have not gone back all the weeks I missed, hence some of the political posts (Sarajevo, etc.) are missing. If interested, please do look them up.
My choices this week are:
1) The Dim Sum of the CAPA group at the Chicago meetings deserves your attention!

2) If in NYC, do try to attend the meeting “BODIES IN DIALOGUE: EMPATHIC CONNECTEDNESS IN THE REALM OF THE UNSPEAKABLE”

3) The Audio/Video Category contains two very interesting posts:
a) of current interest: Neuroscience of Psychotherapy: Dr. Daniel Siegel.
(Schore/Fonagy vs. Kernberg)
Click Here to view this Video
b) of current and historical interest – the transition of trauma: Arnold Wilson (1980) on Children of Holocaust Survivors with Discussion featuring Heinz Kohut

4) I love BOOKS! Whether you are into reading about Updike’s son, the controversy about Heidegger’s anti-semitic leaning and philosophy, or you wonder about the mental life of plants and worms (My orchids only bloom in my office and in no other room even if they all face the same south east side- I think it is because they like the movement of people coming and going and talking. My granddaughter is much more scientific and practical and said it has to do with more carbon dioxide that the people in the room breathe out) you will, I am sure want to read all the books stat.

5) Where have I been? Did you know that a 13 story building tipped over in Shanghai? or for that matter who SIRI is? – and I treat children. Funny they never mention her. (See general news)

6) Marnin E. Fischbach gives credit to psychiatrists in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: “If more people knew what psychiatrists really do, there would be more of them and better health care for everyone”.

7) Science news informs us that there is a 30 % (!) rise in autism since 2012, theorists posit what is yet to come in climate changes and wonder if research into the unconscious mind can help avoid calamity. Devalued as they try to make us we are now to save the world! There is a post that suggests knitting might do it?
