This year the Neuropsychoanalytic Clinical Study Center of NPAP, a group of psychoanalysts working with neurological patients under the supervision of Mark Solms, celebrates its 10th anniversary. As part of the celebration, three members of the group will give brief presentations of cases which demonstrate the feasibility, effectiveness, and challenges of working with this kind of patient.

While certain technical modifications are required, the audience will see that the essence of psychoanalytic work can be preserved, with valuable lessons for psychoanalysis as a whole.

Students, academics and clinical professionals in the analytic community are encouraged to attend. Members of the general public are also welcome.

Educational Objectives: After attending, participants will be able to:
1) Assess the feasibility of providing psychodynamic treatment to neurological patients, identify technical parameters which may be modified to provide such treatment, and discuss the potential benefits of such treatment with patients and their families.

2) Identify at least two ways in which psychoanalytic treatment with neurological patients involves typical dynamics including benefit from attentive, engaged listening; the development of transference and resistance; and improved functioning following the ability to make connections and reduce defensiveness.
