THE BULLY AND THE BULLIED
Presenter: Charles Goodstein, M.D.
The subject of bullying, once regarded as a ubiquitous, harmless aspect of life, is now understood to have potentially disastrous effects. Public concern, media reports, and legislative activity about bullying have become commonplace, but what of the significance of this issue for psychoanalysts and psychotherapists?
Bullying has been a fact in the life of many of our patients, but owing to the residue of feelings associated with it, it is often concealed during treatment. In this presentation, Dr. Goodstein hopes to show the manner in which bullying, sometimes in a pernicious fashion, sometimes very dramatically, affects adversely the psychological development of both the victim and the victimizer.
CHARLES GOODSTEIN, M.D. is a psychoanalyst and psychiatrist of children, adolescents, and adults. He has served as President of the Psychoanalytic Association of NY, the NJ Psychoanalytic Society, and the NJ Council of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He is currently Chair of the Child and Adolescent Analysis Program at the Institute for Psychoanalytic Education affiliated with the NYU School of Medicine, where he is Clinical Professor of Psychiatry.
No registration or fee required. Refreshments served following the presentation.
