The Price of Money: A Psychocultural History Professor Christina Von Braun
Register at www.nypsi.org under Events and Lectures
The modern history of money originated in early Greek antiquity with the innovation of a currency that was certified neither with material goods nor by sovereign fiat, but through rituals of sacrifice in the temple. The talk will bring together perspectives of anthropology, religious history, economics and contemporary findings, accompanied by visual examples that draw a line from antiquity to modern economic and financial institutions.
Christina Von Braun is Professor for Cultural History and Theory at Humboldt University in Berlin and author of twenty books and essays on cultural history, religion and gender.
Students, academics and clinical professionals in the analytic community are encouraged to attend.
Educational Objectives:
1) To acquaint the audience with the history of money.
2) To show the rich symbolic value of money.
3) To convey a sense of the unconscious aspects of culture.
