News from CAPA

CAPA-1

Dear Colleagues,

I want to bring you up to date on what all of us have been doing.

MEMBERSHIP 448 (When we were incorporated in 2006, there were about 45 members) Australia-4, Bolivia-1, Brazil-2, Canada-6, China-1, England-1, France-1, Israel-4, Italy-1, Mexico-2, Panama-1, Thailand-1

TRAINING PROGRAMS
Two-year Basic Psychotherapy Training Program (BPTP): This year there were 70 applicants. The quality was much higher than in all previous years. We will probably accept 45 or 46 students. Many many thanks to all of you who conducted the two interviews each applicant had.

Two-year Advanced Psychotherapy Training Program (APTP): We select 20 of the best BPTP graduates to go on to the APTP.
Infant Observation: a new elective. There are 3 sections of four students each.

Learning to Supervise: a new elective for the graduates of the APTP. There are 3 sections of four students each.

As all of you know, CAPA is not “invading” China. We plan to leave in 10-15 years when enough people have been trained to carry on the work of training.

Conversational English: We will be offering English classes both for our students and for the people we rejected whose ability to speak and to understand spoken English needs improvement

We have 151 separate courses and about 145 Teachers (Some people teach more than one course)
Thanks to you, all my frantic “help wanted ads” paid off.

SUPERVISION
Each BPTP and APTP student receives 1 hour of supervision/week for 30 weeks each year.

This coming year there will be about 110 students in supervision

Our students never want to end supervision. We will offer APTP and BPTP graduates Group Supervision (2-4 students/group) if we have enough supervisors.

WE STILL NEED SUPERVISORS Contact Cathy Siebold csiebolddsw@gmail.com

TREATMENT
There are 49 students in 3-5 session/week psychoanalysis
There are 47 students in 1-2 session/week psychotherapy
CAPA has a new policy. All new students entering treatment will be charged a minimum fee of $30 except for those with demonstrable need.
There are 7 students waiting for someone to treat them. Contact Lana Fishkin lanafishkinmd@gmail.com

TOUR: There are still some places. Please contact me

CAPAINCHINA: Our students and graduates are forming their own organization. They will hold meetings, offer support to those starting private practice etc, etc. The graduates of the APTP will elect a member to our Board of Directors

DIM SUM IN PRAGUE: Friday August 2@ 12:30. 25 people are coming. Room for more. Contact me
SAVE THE DATE: DIM SUM IN NYC SATURDAY JANUARY 18, 2014
2 DISCUSSION GROUPS AND GREAT DUMPLINGS
NEWSLETTER: Unfortunately we were not able to publish one this year. Would you like to be the editor?

SUGGESTIONS: Please send suggestions and comments to me

CAPA has been more successful than any of us could possibly have imagined. I think I could not imagine that all of you would be so extraordinarily generous with time and skill and effort.

I have learned that some Chinese therapists are lying about being CAPA students and that 3 private companies are advertising “Training as good as CAPA’s”

Have a lovely summer

Elise
