In this presentation Dr. Theodore Jacobs will discuss and read from his coming of age novel, The Year of Durocher, as well as discuss the work of a number of writers to illustrate a currently neglected aspect of analytic work:  the role of the adolescent neurosis, the enduring influence of the various phases of adolescence, on the adult personality.

Dr. Sander Abend will discuss Dr. Jacobs’ presentation.
Dr. Jacobs is Clinical Professor of Psychiatry Emeritus at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Training and Supervising Analyst at the New York and IPE Psychoanalytic Institutes.  He is author of The Use of the Self: Countertransference and Communication in the Analytic Situation, and the forthcoming book, The Possible Profession: The Analytic Process and the Process of Change.
Dr. Sander Abend is a Training and Supervising Analyst at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute.  He is an adolescent analyst and a recognized expert on that phase of development.
