The Eagle Nebula captured by Herschel in infrared (left) and Hubble in visible light (right). This is one example of how infrared radiation penetrates and reveals internal characteristics of optically cloaked regions such as gas clouds. The Herschel imagery shows the filaments interior to the opaque columns as seen by Hubble.
