History and Theory: In Search of the Unconscious of Contemporary Psychoanalytic Discourse in Israel
Eran J. Rolnik, M.D., Ph.D.
From its earliest days in fin de siècle Vienna psychoanalytic theory and practice maintained complex dialectical relationship, not only with the individual’s life history, but also with the particular intellectual, political and historical climates in which psychoanalytic discourse took root. His presentation will focus on contemporary psychoanalytic discourse in Israel, and place it within its socio-political context. By applying concepts such as “psychoanalytic identity” and “internal psychoanalytic object” to the group, he will try to outline the profile of present-day Israeli psychoanalysis.
Dr. Rolnik’s recently translated Freud in Zion will be available for sale and signing afterwards.
Dr. Rolnik is a Member, Israel Psychoanalytic Society; Author of several papers on the evolution of Freud’s thought and on the history of psychoanalysis; Hebrew translator and editor of several volumes of Freud’s papers; Adjunct Professor, Tel-Aviv University.
Students, academics and clinical professionals in the analytic community are encouraged to attend.
