Haydee Faimberg, Django Unchained and Resiliance from Sasha Rolde on IP.net

Dear Colleagues,

Happy New Year to all!

The International Psychoanalytic website begins 2013 with a week of stellar post that should be of interest to all of you. As you know the website has grown and matured and requires a lot more to maintain, so I will urge you again to try to contribute to it.

I will first give you a list of my choices as usual and then present the entire menu. I was especially intrigued by the following:

1) The announcement of an IPTAR program, on “contributions of Haydee
Faimberg” with possibility of consultation with her personally, and would recommend it highly. Incidentally, she will also be chairing a Panel Discussion on Otto Fenichel at the IPA meetings in Prague. Since the theme of the congress will be “Facing the Pain”, she is a particularly welcome participant, as her focus of interest is intergenerational transmission of trauma.

2) Both the BOOKS and AUDIO/VIDEO categories contain avant guard posts on trangender, Alzheimer caretakers ( see Dr. Ruth’s interview) and the Eunuchs of the Universe (not what you think).

3) Why has it come to this? Now the APA Answers Criticism of Pharma-Influenced Bias in DSM-5. Who has the power?

4) Note the suicide rates in the army and in colleges!

5) Along the lines of alienation – did you know that in the mind of one of our greatest – Albert Einstein – the cause was capitalism and that he was a proponent of socialism?

6) Have you seen Django Unchained? Please read Dr. Henry Friedman’s review.

7) Having always wondered why some individuals are more resilient than others, I enjoyed the paper on Psychobiology and molecular genetics of resilience and recommend it.

The following is a list of this week’s contents:

A. In the ANNOUNCEMENTS Category:

I. Donations to InternationalPsychoanalysis.net

International psychoanalysis.net has flourished in a remarkable way since it was launched in January 2007. It has become both an archive and a news source.

One of the serendipitous outgrowths of its presence has been that we have even more reasons to experience ourselves as a community with a history, elders, anniversaries, anecdotes, a paper trail, photos and relics of our founders * and evidence of our on-going growth and adaptation to a very changed therapeutic world.

But the growth has outpaced the cottage and one computer.

Are you able to contribute to the cost of our widening scope?
We will use contributions to internationalpsychoanalysis.net to scan and transcribe papers, search archives, find photographs format documents and upload recordings and videos. It is labor intensive and for me a labor of love [but for the helpers, indeed, work]*.
