You may recall that several years ago, APsaA was awarded a grant by the IPA to study the most effective ways in which to reach the 10,000 Best Minds of the next generation. Then President-Elect, Prudy Gourguechon, spearheaded these eforts through the Task Force on Undergraduate Education
http://www.apsa.org/Programs/Education_Outreach/Undergraduate_Education.aspx
One such project concerned the recruitment and formation of an Undergraduate Advisory Board (UAB) comprised of undergraduate students. This 20-person group served an important function in helping us gauge the level of interest in the theory, application, and practice of psychoanalysis, as well as helping us determine the most effective ways of reaching out to undergraduates and in facilitating their interest in psychoanalysis.

In fact, the 10,000 Minds Undergraduate Advisory Board was itself something of an outreach, leading us to a lively, accomplished group of young people, each on an exciting educational path. We recently learned that one UAB member, Mr. Joshua Ollswang, has written and produced an original opera, “Juniper Tree,” that will be performed next month in New York.

Here are the details:

What:    Juniper Tree, Written by Joshua Nathaniel Reid
Ollswang
When:   December 12, 14, and 15, 2012, 8pm
Where:  Jan Hus Theatre, 351 E. 74th Street, New York, New York

Cost:      Donations accepted at the door.

About the Opera: The narrative is a dynamic re-telling of the Brothers Grimm
fairy tale “Juniper Tree.”

The Cast: Performers who have sung with The MET, New York
City Opera, Bilbao Opera Spain, Hong Kong Opera, Nashville Opera, Florentine
Opera, the Chautauqua Opera festival, Ash Lawn Opera, and Opera Theater of St. Louis (among others); they have sung with the New York Philharmonic and performed around the world, and trained at Juilliard, Eastman, Peabody, Oberlin, Manhattan School of Music, the Sorbonne, Stanford , and Cornell.

Do look for an update (coming soon!) on all of our
Undergraduate Advisory Board members, where you can learn more about Mr.
Ollswang’s trajectory. In the meanwhile, please attend this lovely, haunting
original opera.

Best wishes to all this holiday season!
