THE THERAPIST’S MIND AS A STABLE PLACE:WORKING WITH THE CHAOTIC PATIENT
Wednesday, December 5, 2012, 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM, Nancy Cromer-Grayson, LCSW

The treatment of a young woman with a chaotic mind is discussed in the context of the therapist’s experience of providing an organizing space. The therapist needs to hold the patient in mind in order to develop a beginning alliance since mutual collaboration is not possible. This case helps us to think about the type of patient who comes to treatment for support, functioning on a concrete level and through the psychoanalytic process becomes aware of her own intrapsychic life.
