Psychoanalysts of the Left and Far Left in the United States: A Fascinating Informal Talk by Arnold Richards, M.D. on June 28, 2012, 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM

San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis

444 Natoma Street

San Francisco, CA  94103

Dear [Members] [Candidates] [Community Members] of the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis,

You are invited to attend a special presentation by Arnold Richards, M.D., former Editor of Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association and current editor of the cutting edge website, www.Internationalpsychoanalysis.net.  Dr. Richards will speak on his current research on Psychoanalysts of the Left and Far Left in the United States.  A surprising list of influential psychoanalysts in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and elsewhere in the U.S. were members of the Communist Party or were closely affiliated with political movements of the Left.

Arnie’s views on intellectual history and politics are fascinating and profound. In addition to his editorial work, his plenary lectures at the American Psychoanalytic Association and elsewhere, and his many publications, he is especially known for his work on Extenders, Modifiers, and Heretics in Psychoanalytic Theory and on the Politics of Exclusion in Psychoanalysis.

The meeting will be chaired by Louis Roussel, Ph.D., Chair of SFCP’s Extension Education Committee.  It will take place in SFCP’s new building on Natoma Street — our newly designed and beautiful site. There will be ample time for discussion.

Please plan on attending this special event.  RSVP by June 22 to Aaron Chow at SFCP, (415) 563-5815 or aaron.chow@sf-cp.org.
