Certificate Program in CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHOTHERAPY
Is Accepting Applicants for the Fall 2012 Semester
The CAP program offers comprehensive training in the theory and practice of child and adolescent psychoanalytic psychotherapy. It includes 3 years of courses that present and integrate various perspectives and theoretical models, as well as individual supervision of cases in a variety of settings of the candidate’s choice. These settings include the IPTAR Clinical Center, our on-site school programs or the candidate’s place of work or private practice.
Areas of study include:
Comparative psychoanalytic theories of infant, child and adolescent development, including contemporary Freudian and Object Relations theory
Attachment theory and research
Assessment, differential diagnosis and treatment planning
Technique of play therapy
Work with parents and families
Understanding trauma
While most candidates have at least a master’s degree, and are either licensed or working towards a license in a mental health area, other qualifications or experience in working with children may be considered.
Graduates or candidates in Psychoanalytic Training can be given advanced credit for relevant courses.
