Dear Colleagues,
As the threat of beach weather recedes in the northeast, I hope you will find this week’s entries on the international psychoanalytic website a welcome consolation.
Please note that I have listed only newly listed future events in the Announcements Category in the interest of saving time and space, but please review all while you are at that site.
As always, I will begin with some choices of mine, followed by the list of all posts.
Below are my this week’s choices:
1) For all those who are interested in PTSD and in particular the transmission of the Holocaust trauma, the play Eavesdropping on Dreams by Rivka Bekerman-Greenberg, slated for off-broadway showing in April , should prove a must to attend.

2) Dr. Karen Savlov’s book “The Unspoken Truth About Autism: A New Look at the Etiology and Treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorders” caught my interest as the Asperger’s Disorder diagnosis seems to be increasing exponentially . For all child clinicians treating these children, this should be a welcome resource.

3) Deploring the giving up of books for electronics by our children, I was delighted to see that neuroscience is coming to rescue by finding that reading “hones our real-life social skills” encourages children to empathise and understand other’s thoughts and actions, and promotes emotional/social/intellectual growth.

3) Please read and view video of Drs. Arnold S. Relman and Marcia Angell, past editors of the New England Journal of Medicine. Their view of how medicine could be practiced may dovetail with the thoughts of many.

4) …and Dr. Allen Frances dares to speak his mind on DSM V.

5) If you prefer to think that growing old is wonderful, please do NOT read Louis Begley’s “Age and Its Awful Discontents” or your denial may be shaken.

6) Please read about Freud’s contribution to the discovery of local anesthesia!

7) A study in the Science News Category provides proof that use of hypnotics is associated with an increase in mortality. Can we, psychoanalysts, contribute thoughts as to why this should be?

Ilany Kogan, writes about holes: voids, memory-erased spaces of open-mouthed silent screams. She presents cases of children or grandchildren of those who survived the Holocaust, documenting how their psychic holes are populated, filled in with unconscious fantasies, enacted in their lives.
Her work, as you will read here or in her books, is pains-taking: she absorbs the pains, metabolizes them, and …
