WCSPP’s Film Committee invites you as our guests to our winter event, a film screening of “Still Walking” with discussion led by Ken Barish and Jane Bloomgarden.
“Still Walking” (2008) is a delicate and exquisite glimpse of life in a Japanese family of three generations, mired with the challenges of loss and family interactions that evoke a remarkable and astonishing sense of similarity to those encountered in the western world. Directed by Kore-eda, the narrative unfolds in a way that calls to mind the thinking and listening that is part of the art of psychotherapy, and takes the audience on a journey of missed opportunity, the profound connections and disruptions that come with simple, everyday actions, and wordless regret over lost opportunities for intimacy and forgiveness. The New York Times review notes: “This is life as it’s lived, not dreamed. And this is a family bound not only by sorrow, but also by a shared history that emerges in 114 calibrated minutes and ends with a wallop”.
