The body of theories and hypotheses known respectively as the conflict model and object relations model are arguably the two major domains of psychoanalytic theory to have developed over the past century. A dynamic tension, usually, though not always, complimentary exists between the two. The panelists will address the development of these models and the evolving compromise between them.
Edward Nersessian, M.D. is a Training and Supervising Analyst at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute and a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Weill-Cornell Medical Center. He is a Co-founder of the Philoctetes Center, Co-founding Editor of the Journal of Neuropsychoanalysis and a member of the board of the International Psychoanalytic Association.
Wendy Olesker, Ph.D. is a Training and Supervising Analyst at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute and a Clinical Associate Professor at the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. She is on the Editorial Board of The Psychoanalytic Study of the Child and the International Journal of Psychoanalysis.
Mervyn Peskin, M.D. is a member of the Faculty of the New York Psychoanalytic Institute and a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical Center. He has presented and published extensively on the psychoanalytic theory of motivation.
