Dear Colleagues:
On this day, the anniversary of Freud’s death, among the multitude of riches on the international psychoanalysis website, I noticed there are a number of entries with the main focus on children. I have selected a few posts, albeit biased by my own interest in child work , to highlight for you, but hope that you will also chose those which appeal to you. Nevertheless, it has been my contention in the many years that I taught child development that all analysts and mental health professionals would benefit from a thorough understanding of the child and his/her world.
My choices this week are:
1) the discussion and book signing for Keeping Your Child in Mind***by
Claudia M. Gold, MD*** at the Pacella Parent Center. Dr. Gold***s
consistent and continued information to the public is in my opinion
excellent and brings psychoanalytic thinking to those who are raising
the next generation.

TIME IS RUNNING OUT! *** REGISTER TODAY!
Conference on The Register Now at the Early Rate!
Psychology and Neurobiology of Early Trauma
Did you know that until 1990, throughout much of the U.S., surgery on
babies was routinely performed without anesthesia? It is true that
babies don***t remember, in the sense of linear, episodic, narrative
memory. But it is not true that they don***t remember at all. So what do
they remember?
In this interdisciplinary colloquium, we consider the developmental,
neurobiological, and psychological consequences of trauma in infancy,
and explore ***what babies remember*** . . .

To the Editors,
In your Healthland column of Sept. 13, you present an
interview with Dr. Alan Kazdin. We are wholeheartedly in agreement
with his opinion that effective mental health treatment needs to be
made more widely available. However, his comments about individual
psychotherapy are wildly inaccurate and ignore current research.
