Dear Colleagues:
Welcome back from what was hopefully a relaxing summer for all of you. Before you get as busy I am trying to catch up with all the mail, work etc. which has piled up, and before I get to the actual postings on the international psychoanalytic website, I want to alert you to the fact that there are now two added features to the page as you click on the url.
The international psychoanalytic website has become extremely popular world wide and is expanding. The costs of doing so, thus far manageable thru volunteer work, are rising, and hence you will see at the top right hand corner a request to ‘Donate’ for the maintenance and growth of the enterprise. Secondly, before the actual posts appear, you will see my own weekly post that you are receiving on your MEM line or email. The only difference is that each of my personal suggestions have a direct link to them. This addition is for the benefit of those who go to the website directly and do not receive my message any other way, and for those of you who have had a difficult time navigating the website at times, trying to locate a specific post,
My specific suggestions for this week are:
1) For those of you in the Manhattan area, the ‘Ink on Shrinks: Writers in on Therapy 2011 Fall Reading Series’ should be fascinating to attend.

2) Similarly again in NYC there are two posts on treatment of adolescents and children ‘ Therapeutic Success with Adolescents, and Ken Winarick Presentation at NYFS, as well as the ‘Freud/Jung Letters – A Dramatic Reading’ and others., including the timely ‘Dissociation in a Post 9/11 World with Ira Brenner at NYFS’

3) The Books category’s posts are all worthy of your attention. I was particularly drawn to the ‘Interview with Samuel Ritvo about Margaret Mahler.

4) ‘The Illusions of Psychiatry’ is a necessary read in our current professional climate.

5) ‘When Lapses are not Just a Sign of Aging’ is an interesting article on differential diagnosis and on the border of neurological illness and ‘unconscious defense’ which psychodynamically trained clinicians should read and keep in mind.
