The Frontiers of Neucriminology at NPAP

On behalf of The Neuropsychoanalytic Clinical Study Center and the Continuing Education Committee of NPAP, it is a great pleasure to invite you to a presentation and interactive discussion by Prof. Adrian Raine of the University of Pennsylvania. This event is part of a speakers’ series that seeks to build a bridge to and from the psychoanalytic and basic research communities.

THE FRONTIERS OF NEUROCRIMINOLOGY

Sunday, June 5, 2011
5 – 7 pm
NPAP, 40 West 13th Street, New York, NY

Adrian Rain is Chair, Department of Criminology, University of Pennsylvania, and the Richard Perry University Professor, Departments of Criminology, Psychiatry, and Psychology, University of Pennsylvania. He received his BA (1977) and his MA (1982) in experimental psychology, Oxford University; and D. Phil. Psychology (1982), York University, England.  He received numerous prestigious awards for his research.

Prof. Raine’s laboratory research, reveals significant individual and group-level neurological differences that, with input from psychoanalysts, may have significant clinical meaning. His research focus includes disorders such as antisocial and oppositional defiant behavior, depression, PTSD, etc. Research techniques include functional brain imaging, and autonomic and central nervous system psychophysiology. Our hope is that by inviting basic researchers to present to the psychoanalytic community, a critically important dialogue with the research community will begin. This dialogue will inform us about cutting-edge basic research, while, at the same time, offering leading researchers a window into the kinds of clinical research that might enhance our treatment techniques and outcomes.
