We are pleased to announce and invite you to attend the 31st Annual Daniel S. Prager, MD lecture in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, Thursday, April 7, 10:30 – Noon in the GWU Hospital Auditorium.
This year’s distinguished Prager lecturer is Adrienne E. Harris, PhD, Adjunct Clinical Professor of Psychology, New York University Program in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. Dr. Harris is also Faculty and Training Analyst for the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California. She will present Many Genders, Gender Hybrids, No Gender: Gender as Soft Assembly.
Drawing on theory and on clinical experiences and examples, Dr. Harris will explore modern or postmodern experiences of gender. From the ethically and clinically challenging work with transgender individuals, to work with gender variant children, to the longstanding vicissitudes of masculinity and femininity, she asserts that a modern analyst must hold a view of gender as simultaneously fixed and fluid. Many experiences and processes not inherently gendered come to accrue to gender in a particular person or family or culture.
We look forward to seeing you there.
